PMG folks enjoying the tree last year
The Silvercreek HOA is continuously looking for opportunities to make our neighborhood unique, from Dive-In Movie Night, Splash Day and now Lighting of the Lights.
About 4 years ago, the HOA had an idea at Christmastime, they would light the entrance of the neighborhood and down Silvercreek Drive with lights. They would also build a huge light tree at the main park for a place for the kids to gather to see Santa. The coordination for this event starts as early as June and July with light options, layout of lights, contractors and cost.
The major issue was how to contact Santa Claus. Several letters were written with no reply, finally we located Santa’s website: www.emailsanta.com. An e-mail was sent to Santa asking if he had time to attend our event. He agreed to attend our new venture and sent an Elf to survey the property for his reindeer and sled. The Elf explained that there were too many trees and Silvercreek Drive was not straight enough to land on.
The HOA now had a huge problem and knew this event would not succeed without Santa, but the Manvel Fire Department agreed to be his sled. Santa liked the idea of using the fire truck and with more space he asked if he could bring Mrs. Claus. The Silvercreek HOA agreed and Santa and Mrs. Claus attended our little event. They liked it so much they promised to attend every year.
The HOA expands the lights every year. Some residents have expressed concern on the power consumption of these lights and the HOA did also. That issue was solved with LED lights. We hope all residents join us for this yearly event and thank you for making it a success!
This year’s event will be on Saturday, December 7, 2013 beginning at 7:00pm. If you’d like to participate in the wine and cheese portion of the event, please bring your own wine.
